3 Ways to Wear the Tartan Trend

Submitted by on Thursday, 10 October 2013 | No Comment

Tartan is big news this Autumn/Winter and is so versatile. The print looks gorgeous on skirts and trousers, blouses and dresses, so how will you wear yours?

Tartan may sound like a slightly daunting trend, but with so many high street retailers embracing it, it’s so easy to find some tartan to suit you and your style. To show you just how versatile this trend is, I have created three completely different outfits which all centre around a tartan piece.

1. The Classic Kilt:

To make the tartan skirt look a bit less school-y, I’ve added a letterman style varsity jumper from River Island with leather look detailing, a black beanie and Nike Blazers in black (available from Asos) for a relaxed and on trend look, perfect for the transition into autumn. This patent black rucksack from Topshop and chunky gold necklace from New Look complete this casual take on tartan.

2. Smarten It Up

Tartan can be great as a twist to your working wardrobe. These tailored tartan trousers are from River Island, the dark tartan print keeps you smart for work but with a twist. These look great with a cream, pleat front blouse from Next. To break up the cream of the shirt I’ve also added a chunky gold and stone necklace, which is also a stunning focal point. Add some heeled brogues and a tan doctor’s bag and you’re ready for the working day.

3. Quirky Detailing:

Finally, for a slightly different take on the tartan trend, make use of this midi skirt from Topshop, which does the tartan pattern in pastel and navy. Add this beautiful jumper in a soft grey from Miss Selfridge; the colours compliment without clashing and the embellishment is a lovely extra detail. Bring out the embellishment of the jumper with this vintage inspired bracelet and watch set from Dorothy Perkins and clash your colour with this mint green satchel with scallop edges and gold detail from Asos) Add a pair of mid-height chunky heeled strap sandals and your quirky take on tartan is done.

How will you be wearing your tartan?
