To be able to come up with new collections every season, designers certainly need some form of vivid imagination and it seems that Dutch designer duo Viktor & Rolf are taking their imaginations to the next level after creating a new book of 12 fairy-tales to be published this October.

Simply titled ‘Viktor & Rolf Fairy Tales,’ the book contains stories based in various fantasy worlds dreamt up by the pair, and in the tradition of fairy-tales, each story comes complete with a moral message. Many of the stories are said to be inspired by the designer’s various fashion collections, for example, ‘Two Moons,’ tells the story of a completely black planet, possibly inspired by the Black Hole Collection from 2001.

‘The Golden Dress,’ which features Princess Giselle designing her own party dress made entirely of Gold is also said to be inspired by the designer’s Russian Doll collection in the Winter of 1999 where they dressed Maggie Rizer in layers and layers of clothing totalling 70 kilos.

The book will be published by Hardie Grant Books from October 2011, priced at £12.99 and although a book of fairy-tales, it will also be a unique insight into the minds of two of the worlds biggest designers. We can’t wait to get our hands on it!
