Trend Alert: Ballerina Chic

Submitted by on Tuesday, 11 January 2011 | No Comment

High buns, ballet pumps, lace bodies and tulle skirts pirouetted their way down the runways of Erdem, Chanel, David Koma and Chloé at their Spring/Summer 2011 shows, hinting that Ballet inspired fashion might be making a breakthrough in 2011.

But now, with the release of hit movie of the year so far, Black Swan, ‘Ballerina Chic’ is not only going to breakthrough in 2011, but it’s going to be a huge fashion trend!

Even if we don’t all have Oscar nominated actress Natalie Portman’s gorgeous slender figure, we can all work a little Ballerina fashion into our wardrobes this year.

This trend is extremely fun and feminine, with soft materials and hues that are perfect for the Summer! It’s a great excuse to reinvent your six your old self again as tutus are now acceptable to wear out and about and gorgeous ballet pumps will replace those killer high heels.

ASOS.com have a gorgeous selection of tutus that make the perfect party wear and they’ve all been slashed in price! We love the Asymmetric Tutu Skirt, £12, and Elastic Waist Tutu Skirt, £12.

Topshop have an absolutely amazing, over the top Ballet Net Bustier Dress, by RARE Opulence for £165, which is a little expensive, but if there’s one statement dress you need in your wardrobe this is it!

Body suits and bodices are perfect for installing a little ballerina fashion into your wardrobe. New Look’s Velvet Body Suit will look great under a pair of skinny jeans and a jacket, or even a tutu for a full on ballet inspired outfit.

Of course, we can’t forget the thing that completes every outfit – the shoes! Ballet pumps are an absolute must and we love these cute Red Fabric Rose Pumps, £18 from Topshop. Ballet Chic doesn’t have to be nudes, pastels and whites, you can also work a bit of colour into the trend.

If you’re a working girl and can’t incorporate the Ballerina look into your wardrobe, you can cleverly work a tight, high bun in your hair or even have a go at some dramatic make up, saving the daring outfits until the weekend. Whichever way you work it, it’s the perfect fashion trend to make you feel feminine and flirty this Summer.
