Street Style: Summer Casual Cool As Seen On Terri

Submitted by on Wednesday, 2 June 2010 | No Comment

When Summer stikes, we all want to be comfortable in what we’re wearing, but still look good. Terri here shows us the perfect example of a practical outfit that is casual and relaxed, yet still bang on trend. I love how she has mixed lots of textures and layers, with soft shades for a contrast against the dark denim harems. Harem pants are a definite staple piece for the warmer months, so I’ll be using those as the main focus for this look. In my opinion, denim harems are the easiest kind to wear, as they can be smart or casual, and aren’t as harsh as the more tapered peg leg trousers. This makes them perfect for casual wear in summer.

Terri wears a top by H&M, trousers by Zara and shoes from Schuh. She also carries a bag and cardigan, both from Topshop.

To recreate Terri’s look, you’ll obviously need to start with the trousers. Go for a slouchy denim harem, but be careful not to go too baggy, as the rest of the look is fairly relaxed and slouchy also. Team these with a nude body or bandeau top as a base for your layers, and add a sheer blouse or fine knit t-shirt over the top. When layering tops, keep the first fitted and add sheer looser layers over it. That way, you will still see the silhouette through, and it will create a light, fresh look. Keep a short sleeved chunky knit cardigan at hand incase the temperatures drop, and team with some cute loafers and a casual satchel.

For a twist on Terri’s look, why not dress the trousers up for night? Instead of a nude body, opt for a floral one to channel the ‘Underwear as Outerwear’ trend. Add a vintage style blazer or sheer cardigan and opt for peep toes in a nude shade and an oversize clutch. Stack some metalice bangles on one arm for a touch of sparkle and you’ve turned a casual item into a statement summer evening look.
