A Look Back at DAKS AW11 Collection @ London Fashion Week: A British Classic with a Contemporary Twist

London Fashion Week 2011 showed some amazing fashion finds a few weeks ago. As well as some very well-known foreign fashion designers, there was also a fleet of amazing British designers, showing the overseas crowd why British fashion is so unique and ‘fabulous darling’! One British designer, who is the epitome of quintessential Britain, is DAKS.

Returning to London Fashion Week for the third time, showcasing their AW11 collection, DAKS heritage pieces have reworked some of their signature pieces from the past collections such as their popular checks, into more contemporary creations.

When it comes to colours they have been inspired by autumn and have used a mix of navy, deep green and chocolate browns which are totally on trend colours this season. They have incorporated these colours with their signature DAKS check to create a perfect 60s/70s London girl look full of sophistication and elegance.

For Autumn/Winter it is important that knitwear is featured in a designer collections and it would seem that DAKS have hit the mark. Creating some gorgeous pieces, they have kept to their roots by creating some gorgeous handmade pieces using the British Blue Faced Leicester wool which couldn’t get as British as that. The brain behind these knitwear creations is Emma Bradbury, the DAKS/RCA 2009 Competition winner who has assisted in creating the wonderful pieces.

Quite a few designers are very much appreciating the androgyny trend, and DAKS is no exception. Their outwear which include capes, hooded ponchos and duffels shows their subtle approach when sporting this trend as they have use heavier materials to identify the collection masculinity.

Accessories – one of my favourites is all about the retro 60s style. Metal accents combine with patent leather to produce statement bags and boots, showing off their timeless as well as practical side.

Visit the DAKS website for more information on their AW11 collection, to get you ready for the wintry weather ahead.
