The most prestigious British film award ceremony took place last night at the Royal Opera House in London, and some of Britain’s biggest stars were out in force, dressed up to the nines for their red carpet appearances.

Emma Watson
We’ve got all the hottest red carpet outfits for you to debate over starting with the elegant and demure Emma Watson who was at the event to accept the Outstanding Contribution award on behalf of Harry Potter author, J.K Rowling. The actress opted for a one-shoulder, printed gown from Valentino’s Spring 2011 collection. She teamed the dress with sparkly heels and heavy make-up.

Gemma Arterton
Bond girl and the new face of G-Star Raw, Gemma Arterton looked positively glowing in a Yves St Laurent black floor length gown, complete with huge bright blue bow. She was nominated for The Orange Rising Star Award but was unfortunately beaten to the title by Tom Hardy.

The usually controversial Helena Bonham Carter got everything right this time with a black ruffled gown by her favourite designer, Vivienne Westwood, accessorised with a Lulu Guinness clutch bag and jewellery from Solange Azagury-Partridge. It’s a real step up from the odd shoe debacle that she created at the Golden Globes recently and her luck was really in as she scooped up the award for Best Supporting Actress for The Kings Speech.

Emma Watson’s fellow Harry Potter actress, Bonnie Wright made an appearance wearing a gorgeous gradient patterned dress by Clements Ribeiro and actress Julianne Moore was spotted with designer Tom Ford wearing one of his midnight blue velvet creations.

British TV and popstars were also out in force on the red carpet as we saw appearances from Silent Witness star Emilia Fox, who wore a floor length silk creation by Kate Halfpenny, TV presenter Jameela Jamil in a rose-print Dolce and Gabbana dress and Girls Aloud star Kimberly Walsh who looked stunning in Ashish as she interviewed A-listers.

There were plenty of hits on the red carpet last night, as well as the odd miss, but Thandie Newton was our winner of the best dressed of the night award as she showed up in a glorious, floor length gown by Monique Lhuiller, who is currently showing at New York Fashion week. We think many stars could take a leaf out of Thandie’s book.
