Barbie gets a special makeover in time for Christmas courtesy of designer/milliner Stephen Jones.

The hat maker to celebrities, Stephen Jones, has designed ultimate fashionista through the ages, Barbie (of course) five full decadent Christmas outfits.

‘Santa Baby’ Barbie certainly errs on the seductive side, with nothing but a luxe Christmas hat wrapped around her as a dress with crystal detailing.

“Barbie is the most fabulous private client,” said Jones. “She came into the salon for her Christmas morning hat and left with five glamorous outfits! Barbie and I have the same design vision; we love tradition, but have an eye for the future.”

‘Toffee-Ice’ Barbie sports Lady Gaga style reindeer antlers as well as a fluffy dress and ice skates.

“We’re enamoured with the idea of truly one-of-a-kind gifts this Christmas,” said Selfridges’ head of accessories, childrenswear and toys, Erin Moscow. “More than ever before we’re aware of the demand for pieces which offer something really special. These pieces don’t necessarily come with a million-pound price tag – they’re not about ostentatiousness – their beauty lies in their rarity. All of the storytelling and fantasy of Stephen’s work, realised with fun and witticism that’s synonymous with Barbie, has gone into these beautiful dolls.”

‘Snow Globe’ Barbie ups the headgear ante with a bauble around her head. She also gives us non-plastic ladies serious dress envy with her slinky embellished number.

‘Holly Surprise’ Barbie wears a couture style fishtail dress with holly detail and a little robin perched delicately on her head.

The five dolls are priced at £250 each will launch at the dedicated Barbie space in Selfridges toy department on the 15th of November. A rather pricey plaything all in all, but they are a quirky idea for a Christmas present… if you have too much money to know what to do with. Otherwise some chocolate will be fine.

What do you think of Barbie’s Christmas attire?
