Audrey Hepburn was one of the biggest style icons of her era and she even continues to be one in today’s society. Now one of her most famous dresses is set to face the auction hammer.

The gorgeous Ivory lace gown was worn by the actress when she collected her Oscar for Best Actress for her role in, Roman Holiday. The dress, which was adapted from a costume worn by legendary studio designer Edith Head, was created especially for Hepburn’s character in the movie. She played a runaway princess who was keen to shake off the Royal lifestyle and explore Rome by herself.

Hepburn wore the dress way back in 1954 when she picked up the award and now it is to be sold at auction on November 29th 2011 at Kerry Taylor Auctions. The dress is said to be valued between £40,000 – £60,000 but could fetch much more when it goes under the hammer. In the past, the auction house has sold Hepburn’s dresses for a staggering £270,000.
