Beijing Street Style

Forget about catwalks, red carpets and magazines; some of the best style out there comes from the streets.  In Beijing, Xidan is one of the best places to scout out street style as it is a favoured hang out spot for the young and cool.

My task in capturing the best of Xidan’s street style was at first a bit like pulling teeth. Many were highly embarrassed or even suspicious as to what my motives were; and I was often met with the response of 不用不用 ( there’s no need) along with a hasty dismissive wave of the hand. I was, however, eventually able to encourage quite a few to have their photo taken and these are my top 5, with tips on how you can steal their style.

Stripes never go out of fashion as this fashionista proves. Paired with some bang on trend ankle boots for an up to date look. Steal her look with this wavy striped cut out shoulder tee from Topshop (£18) .Pair with black skinny jeans or leggings.

A style favoured by many Korean girls- girlie attire topped off with a baseball cap. Despite popular opinion caps needn’t just be for chavs. Get your cap from www.polo-shirts.co.uk for just 60p! ( delivery rate- £5)

This girl demonstrates effortless cool with the trend of the moment- shredded denim. Match her style with this denim Rip Drop Hem Mini Skirt from Miss Selfridge £25 Just add aviators for extra effect.

The boyfriend blazer is hot this season and goes well dressed down with skinny jeans as this girl proves. Asos does a fabulous Ben Sherman version at £85

Finally, it wouldn’t be Asia without the stereotypical Japanese schoolgirl look. Copy this girl’s style with this Jersey Pleat Skirt from Urban Outfitters – reduced from £32 to £19.99

Alternatively you could just get matching t-shirts for you and your boyfriend like this loved up couple. Wear at your own peril!
