London 2012 USA Uniforms Designed by US Ralph Lauren…But Made in China?

US Atheletes are certainly making their nation proud by hitting the headlines for their outstanding achievements in the Olympics games, however it would appear that not everything maybe as proud under the collar. Why? Just when us fashionistas were complimenting the US for their stylish uniforms designed by Ralph Lauren, it would seem that the label inside tells a different story.

Instead the classic navy blue blazers, white trousers and skirts, and red-accented ties and berets may have a distinctly American look, but the label inside reads “Made in China”

This has caused outrage amongst the public and politicians.  House of Representatives minority leader Nancy Pelosi stressed although the entire nation was behind its Olympic athletes she disagreed with uniforms being made in China. She quoted by saying, “We take such pride and they work so hard. They represent the very best and they’re so excellent, it’s all so beautiful…They should be wearing uniforms made in America.”

However some US policans have gone on to say that with such high unemployment in the US, the Olympic committee for the US should be ashamed for having the US uniforms made in China. “I think they should take all the uniforms, put them in a big pile and burn them. And start all over again,” the Los Angeles Times quoted Harry Reid, the senior Democratic senator from Nevada as saying.

However the US Olympic Committee hit back at the backlash and said Team USA was privately funded and sponsored. “We’re proud of our partnership with Ralph Lauren, an iconic American company,” the committee added.

So what do you all think? Do you think it is ok for a national uniform to be made in a different company or should it be designed and made in it’s country of origin?
