You would have been hard pushed to have escaped the frenzy surrounding the recent Oscar awards, but over recent years it is the fashion of the celebrities that has caught as much attention as the awards themselves.

This year with blockbuster films like Black Swan and The King’s Speech up for nomination, it was a sure fire bet that all the stars would be pulling out all the stops in an array of glamous gowns and suave tuxedos.

There were red dresses, short gowns and full length ones, but one of the eye catching trends at the Oscars 2011 was purple dresses. Natalie Portman, star of the gripping Black Swan, and the gorgeous Scarlett Johansson turned up wearing purple dresses and both carried the look off perfectly. Natalie opted for a full lenth satin gown with a plunging neckline from designer Rodarte, whereas Scarlett decided on a different kind of flesh showing dress with a full length, see through lace dress by Dolce and Gabbana.

Purple was also the colour of choice when it came to the after parties. Emma Stone turned up to the Vanity Fair post-ceremony bash in a short and sparkly purple dress complete with a mini train hanging down the back.

Whether you would rather the sophisticated elegant look of Portman, the sassy frock of Johansson or the fun and flirty outfit worn by Stone, there is a whole selection of purple dresses available to get the spring into your step for the season ahead.
