Street Style: Layer Textures For A Smart Look Like Sumayya’s

When I spotted the gorgeous Sumayya I just had to get a picture of her outfit. I love everything about it. The lace, the chiffon, the harems, the scarf casually tied to the bag. It’s so relaxed, yet so smart at the same time, and she has achieved a lovely effortless summer look.

I really love the idea of mixing and layering textures in the way that Summaya has. Lace is such a big fabric right now, and is one of those things that you can take through to the winter too. A fabric that was once only known as a trim on our undergarments, is now the fabric of this season’s must have fashion pieces. Layer them with a mix of jerseys and chiffons to add a wearable, laid back touch. Here I’ll show you how to create Summaya’s look with similar pieces.

Sumayya’s outfit is all from Topshop.

Take a body suit in plain jersey or lace, and wear this underneath a pair of smart, tailored harem trousers. Next add a lace t shirt, and tuck this in to the trousers. Go for a lace top without any lining, so that the underneath layers can be seen through. This softens the look and allows all layers to be on show. For the final layer, add a floaty chiffon bolero or shrug and wear it open. Again, try and opt for a sheer, see through chiffon so that the below layers are visible. For daytime, wear flat pumps in black to keep the look fairly smart. Accessorise with an across the body bag in a tan shade, and tie a vintage style scarf to the handle for more of a quirky touch.

For a more casual take on layering and mixing textures, swap the harems for some cut of denim shorts. Make sure they have frayed detailing for added interest! Stick with a lace body, but go with a pastel colour rather than black, and add a jersey crop top over this. Then add a chiffon waistcoat in a complementing colour to keep the look soft. Wear with some canvas and straw Espadrilles for even more texture, and if you want to go all out, accessorise with a fringed bag! Be sure to keep all the colours simple so that it doesn’t become over the top, and you have a funky summer look!
