Harrods Receives Chanel Makeover!

Submitted by on Tuesday, 6 September 2011 | No Comment

Harrods has had quite the makeover, it was revealed today. Karl Lagerfeld and his team have transformed the iconic London store to a whimsical Chanel haven, complete with enchanted forests, giant unicorns and walk-through handbags.

Even before setting foot inside the store, it’s apparent to visitors that Lagerfeld has very much taken over. Chanel flags are lined up across the Harrods facade, whilst for the first time in history that the store has dedicated all 23 windows to one brand. And what a window display they’ve created… Fantastical (and a little bizarre?) forests adorn the famous windows, with mystical creatures donning the A/W 2011 collection of textured tweeds and beautifully hued silks.

The first floor boasts and French fairytale world of a “misty garden” boutique, lined with white and black walls embossed with lion’s heads. Within this temporary boutique, it appears everything has been given the interlocking Cs makeover, including the classic Harrods bags, as well as limited edition Knightsbridge make-up. Luxurious shoes, bags, accessories and fine jewellery, distinguishable to the brand, can be found here.

The third floor, however, is when it gets really exciting. The “Une Promenade” has been described as an Alice-in-Wonderland-style journey into the world of Coco Chanel. Visitors are lured in through oversized pearls into a monochrome room that leads into six other exhibitions; the 2.55, a walk-through padded creation of the world-famous bag in which visitors discover the production process; the tweed room, dedicated to Chanel’s choice of fabric; an enchanted child’s playroom with Chanel inspired toys; a reconstruction of the designer’s French apartment; the library space in Lagerfeld’s studio, and a room dedicated to all Chanel’s famous symbols.

I don’t know about you, but I cannot wait to see the exhibition. As such an iconic fashion brand, it would be exciting to get that one step closer to the creative mind of Lagerfeld and life of Coco Chanel.  It opens to the public Tuesday 6 September, and lasts three weeks… will I be seeing you there?
