Trend Alert: Stripes

Every year we welcome back the Nautical/Stripe trend with open arms; like a good wardrobe friend, we embrace it’s style and familiarity. We turn to the the striped tops, dresses and accessories when we need a quick helping hand as we know that you just can’t go wrong with a good old fashioned stripe.

Of course, the navy and white stripes are the most popular, but this season, it’s all about coloured stripes. They are still simple to wear with shorts, jeans and skirts, but they give a warmth and some much needed colour to your outfit. The bolder the colours, the better! We’re thinking bright yellows, reds and oranges for full in-your-face Summer stripes and calmer, pastel toned stripes for a more relaxed, sophisticated style.

The Spring/Summer 2011 catwalk shows were packed full or stripes. Fendi paraded bright coloured striped skirts down the run-way, while Jil Sander opted for candy coloured stripes on maxi skirts. Whether it’s your shoes, accessories, shorts or skirts, there needs to be a stripe somewhere in there. We’ve got some helpful high-street stripe suggestions for you below!

We love the Small Ticking Stripe Satchel from ASOS, which features a handy cross-body strap and buckles. Perfect for packing in your Summer essentials!

Wear them horizontal or vertical, it’s up to you. The Petite Chambray Vertical Stripe Sleeveless Shirt from Topshop is a gorgeous way to work stripes. Team with shorts and gladiator sandals for an ultimate Summer outfit.

Striped Summer dresses are great for every occasion. The New Look 50’s Style Tunic will look gorgeous in the evening with a pair of cute heels, as well as great in the day time with wedges or sandals.

We love the bold red stripes on the ASOS Stripe Jersey Skirt as well as the sultry pastel stripes on the ASOS Burnout Stripe Skinny Sleeve Top.

For a braver and bolder stripey look, try the Pink Printed Stripe Tee from Miss Selfridge, with assorted shades of pinks and purples.

Our absolute favourite style of stripe is the multi-coloured ones! We LOVE the Debenham’s Red Herring Stripey Summer dress which is due in store very soon. The brighter the better, we say, so get out there and earn your stripes!
