Vivienne Westwood designs new Brit award

Dame Vivienne Westwood is hailed as one of Britain’s most iconic fashion designers as she was largely responsible for bringing alternative punk fashion into the mainstream, so it’s only right that she has been given the honour of redesigning the statuette that is handed to the award show winners.

After deciding to completely revamp the show for 2011, the Brit awards organisers drafted in Westwood to redesign the famous, but not exactly eye-catching, award.

Now, the award represents all that is British as it is draped solely in a Union Jack inspired piece and is the first to include a political message saying: “Stop! Climate Change.”

Talking to The Guardian newspaper, the new chairman of the awards and CEO of Universal Music in the UK, David Joseph said: “Vivienne stands for all the things we want to inspire in tomorrow’s generation of artists. She continues to be unique, innovative, not to mention massively inspired by music and vice versa. We are honoured she accepted our offer of designing 2011’s trophy.”

We love the new chic Brit award, but we’d love to hear your opinions on it!
