Diana Eng has been thoroughly exploring the realms of technology enhanced fashion, having released a collection of dresses that are full of sparkling light as well as shape-shifting, Diana has now created the ‘El wire dress,’ which is going to be the next big thing in her collection.

If you don’t remember, Diana Eng was the lovable fashion geek from Project Runway Series 2, who has now become a notorious fashion designer, having had her latest collection shown in New York. Her nine piece collection was labelled ‘Fairytale Fashion’ and including twinkling dresses, inflating dresses and a dress that lights up in reaction to sound.

Speaking of her collection Eng said: “I really wanted the clothing to be interactive, one of my favorite pieces is a dress that lights up in reaction to sound. So if you’re talking at a party, it’s really expressive.”

Her latest creation, the ‘El wire dress’ is made possible thanks to origami style folded fabric that is animated through shape shifting wires (memory alloys) which results in the gorgeous effect you can see in the picture.

The fabric of the dress is a silk chiffon that comes in a stunning Aqua colour with lots of draping, coupled with electroluminescent wires that are integrated in the edges. The dress’ illumination is controlled by an accelerometer while its collection of battery and electronics are worked into a 3D printed neck piece.

The dress mixes technology and fashion in a way that no one has ever thought of before. It is truly the next step in fashion. Diana’s collection is available this month at DianaEng.com
