50’s fashion has been revived in time for Spring 2010. Spots, stripes and florals have been brought into the 21st century and given a little modern makeover to make you look more feminine and sophisticated with clean cuts and fresh spring colours.

Women of the fifties tended to dress smartly, looking and acting like a true lady was important. A good tailored and figure hugging dress was a popular look, as was the floral look which could be seen in summer dresses with ‘swing’ and ‘poodle’ skirts.

Online shopping website BooHoo.com have snapped up the trend and designed some gorgeous dresses inspired by the fashion era. The ‘Kourtney Prom Dress, £25’ (above) is a modern take on the prom dresses of the fifties, using bright colours and heart print all over, what makes it exceptionally feminine and fifties-like is the netting under the skirt which gives it a great puffed out look.

Another take on fifties fashion is the ‘Lina Tutu Ruffled Prom Dress, £25’ (above) which comes in pink, blue or ivory. The ruffles give the dress a real feminine twist and they move perfectly as you dance the night away.

The ‘Costin Floral and Polka Dot Button Front Dress, £20’ (above) is another take on the fifties dress, it is a figure hugging dress covered in florals which makes it perfect for the day time, or team it with some heels for a party outfit.

Highstreet giant Topshop have recently launched a collection of tea dresses which are definitely inspired by the fifties so if you want a more girly and casual look, these dresses are perfect for you. The ‘Wavy Spot Flippy Dress, £45’ (above) comes in grey and is covered in polka dots, it also comes complete with shoulder pads for an edgier look and a floaty skirt.

The ‘Bloom Knot Back Sundress, £35’ (above) is the perfect floral sundress to wear on day trips to sunny spots. Teamed with a big hat and sunglasses you will complete the perfect retro look.

The British highstreet has taken the fashion trend and given it their own unique twist but it’s easy to see that they have stuck to the main conventions of fifties dresses, in order to create your own unique fifties outfit, you can take some inspiration from the pictures below.
