The epitome of understated cool and pioneer of the quirky but grungy look that dressed a generation: Alexa Chung still has it.

The striking model is pictured above at an event for Bulgari, the luxury jewellery brand. She kept her look simple but striking, and as always with Alexa, the devil was in the detail. By having the skirt in gorgeous, shiny leather, it becomes a bold statement piece as opposed to an office wear staple.

The embellishment on the cuffs and collar of the shirt adds some interesting detail to the monochrome outfit. Pushing the sleeves up to three-quarter length gives Alexa that casual edge, ensuring she wears the outfit and it doesn’t wear her.

The shoes are black courts with the strap detailing and look cute and ladylike in contrast to the leather mini skirt. She keeps her make-up her special brand of “grungy natural” with smudgy, smoky eyes and a nude lip. Her hair looks natural in an unfussy up-do with fringe undone and tumbling down the sides of her face. Nonchalance is key to pulling off this look.

Here’s how to steal Alexa’s style:

1. Blouse from New Look

2. Skirt from Topshop

3. Sandals from River Island

4. Bracelet from Asos

5. Lipstick from Tom Ford

6. Ring from Etsy

This beautifully embellished shirt is from New Look and is a different take on the embellished white shirt. It has a slightly more Western style and the detailing really is beautiful. Because this shirt lacks embellishment on the sleeves, this silver bracelet is in keeping with the colours, and just adds a bit of glitz without taking away from the design on the shirt.

The leather skirt is the key piece in this look and is a really big trend at the moment. This A-line skirt is from Topshop and will be sure to look incredible either with a slouchy tee or feminine blouse. These heels have interesting strap detail, and will really stand out with all that bare leg on show (go on, be brave!). Just make sure you paint your toenails a standout colour, a classic deep red would look perfect.

What do you think of Alexa Chung’s style?
