The MTV Video Music Awards 2011 is the one event a year where us fashion lovers can see some great and some wacky outfits from our favourite celebrities. Of course, this year’s stand out moments included Lady Gaga turning into her alter-ego Joe Calderone and giving Britney Spears a peck on the lips and the music industry’s most loved solo singer, Beyoncé announcing that she was expecting a baby with husband Jay-Z.

There were some amazing outfits to be seen on the red-carpet at this years award ceremony and of course, a few very questionable outfits as well. We’re looking at you Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry. We have managed to pick some of our favourite outfits for you to take a look at below:

Solo singer Adele was flying the flag for Britain on the night with a simple black Burberry dress with statement neckline. The singer managed to pick up three moon-men awards for Best Art Direction, Best Editing and Best Cinematography for her single ‘Rolling In The Deep’.

Black was a popular theme for the night, with Selena Gomez rocking a Gothic inspired Julien Macdonald Fall 2011 dress while singer JoJo wore a black Marco Marco bustier dress with impressive bubble skirt. Britney Spears opted for something a bit more simple with a black sequinned Moschino romper and Zoe Saldana wore a gold embellished Barbara Bui Fall 2011 little black dress.

Katie Holmes appeared on the red-carpet in a patterned Azzedine Alaia dress with Proenza Schouler suede ankle boots, which gave her a young and fun sense of style. Katy Perry kept to her wacky sense of style with an Atelier Versace Fall 2011 mini dress that was embroidered with sequins and crystals. Her bright pink hair was tightly curled and she showed up carrying a parasol.

Of course, all eyes were on Beyoncé and her new baby bump and she didn’t disappoint in an Orange one shoulder Lanvin Fall 2011 gown, accessorised with Rene Caovilla heels with pearl and Swarovski crystal detailing, Lorraine Schwartz statement jewellery and diamond earrings. She also performed her single ‘Love On Top’ while looking extremely glamorous in a Dolce & Gabbana purple sequin tuxedo jacket, white shirt and loose fitting black pants.

We think you’ll agree that this years red-carpet was full of more fashion hits than misses. Let us know what you’re favourite outfits were by leaving us a comment on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
