Spring 2010 Trend: The Classic Mac or Trench Coat
The Mac or trench as it can also be known is one of those must have items that never lose its classic edge. This spring is no different to what is on the designer’s catwalks and campaign ads! We compare designer to high street to find something for everyone!
The new Burberry Trench – they were the first designers to create a Mac or trench coat for women, they saw a niche in the market and grabbed it! Starting out very similar to the men’s version they have come a long way! This is Burberry’s modern day twist on the Trench coat, not for everyone at £850.00 but the pleating skirt creates almost an outfit itself. Taking its main design from the original but adding a very new twist.
As the price tag is rather hefty, the high street has become our mere mortal’s saviour once again! Taking great inspiration from the catwalks of the gods, New Look has really come through for Mac coats this season! Very similar to the Burberry coat above, this Mac from New Look comes in at only £35.00. A little bit of a different style minus the pleated skirt and the captain styled shoulders, it is a modern Mac coat with the tie up belt and the big round buttons.
Colourful and Printed Burberry Macs
If you fancy a little bit more daring and a little bit more of a twist on the new Mac and fancy being noticed then go for a colour! Burberry has tried to stick to the more obvious colours – as they are timeless classics but they have thrown in a lemon yellow twist!
Another twist on the classic, introducing a splash of pastel colour and rushed sleeves and waist. The buttons and the detail on this area little less obvious as the colour does that for the Mac itself. Sticking to the classic Burberry style the captain shoulders and the tie up waist create an exciting new version for a vivacious classic.
The catwalks and high street is not the only people loving this season’s twist on the Mac! We have Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame who is the new face of Burberry, modelling the new spring/summer line.
Mixing up the classic with a variation of colour, and flower like pattern this Mac coat has shorter sleeves but a wider over-coat. The belt is much tighter version of the original Mac belt which is where you can see Burberry mixing up the original classic with the modern day working women.
What to wear with your Mac/Trench
When thinking about what to team your Mac / Trench with the image of Ugly Betty actress Becki Newton in her Mac with very sexy underwear on underneath does come to mind! But we don’t suggest that is all you wear! Macs are very versatile and can be dressed up or down.
Skinny Jeans at Topshop for £40
If planning on wearing it during the day team it with some very skinny jeans. Topshop are normally the people to rely on for super skinny jeans. Not only will the Mac bring you in at the waist but skinny jeans are becoming a girl’s best friend for the legs to die for! Team with a loose top and a comfortable pair of flats.
Heels from Miss Selfridge at £40.00
To team this outfit up at night time a pair of heels will bring you from day to night. All you would need to do is change your shoes and the Mac can dress your outfit up by a mile! Miss Selfridge have these black patent heels at a steal of only £40.00 which can dress your outfit up from being a cute dinner outfit also making you look like a lady who isn’t a handful!
