Our Jilbabs and Eid Mubarak!

Today I will be taking a break from StyleClone, to celebrate Eid with my family.  For those of you that don’t know, Eid is a celebration celebrated by Muslims and just like Christmas, it is a time for everyone to get together and enjoy some gorgeous food and dress up.  Also, it is the only time of the year when I get to dress in my traditional clothes and I love it!  The colours and the detail that goes into the outfits is amazing.

There are different variations and styles which come together on Eid.  As Muslims come from every corner of world, the fashion is also different dependent on the culture.  This is why celebrating Eid in the UK is so fantastic.  You will notice, how cultures entwine giving you a fusion of the western and eastern dress.     Take a look on Soho Road in Birmingham or Green Street in London or even Wilmslow Road in Manchester and you will find a mix of South Asian, Middle Eastern and Western dress.

So whilst I was searching for an outfit to wear for Eid, I stumbled across this very talented online boutique called ‘Our Jilbabs’.  If you don’t know what a jilbab also know  as an abaya is, it is often described as a black full length dress worn by predominantly religious Muslims girls who cover their hair with a headscarf.  However, a new trend is emerging and the modern Muslim girl is looking for something which is practical, wearable and also funky for those special occasions like Eid.  Our Jilbabs offers a fresh and contemporary approach to wearing an abaya, and for those of you, like me that don’t wear a headscarf, these abayas are a great alternative to a maxi dress.  The lightweight and floaty material feels and looks great.

Our Jilbabs is owned by fashion designer, Rahima.  All her designs are made from gorgeous quality fabrics and designed to suit the individuals tastes and personality.   I am totally in love with these two pieces below…
