Karl Lagerfeld Makes Bespoke Chanel Pieces for Cate Blanchett
Karl Lagerfeld has recently sent Cate Blanchett bespoke Chanel pieces for her to wear for the character in her new film, Blue Jasmine.

The film Blue Jasmine is directed by Woody Allen, in which Blanchett plays Jasmine, a socialite married to a top financier who is used to the New York high life, but is left destitute when her husband is exposed as a fraud. The costumes are important in conveying the status of the character and how much she has to lose, as costume designer for the film, Suzy Benzinger, explains:
“As far as brands go, for Jasmine, it really was Chanel and Fendi,” she explained. “Woody loves to have costumes in his films that speak volumes about history and fashion. I think as soon as I mentioned ‘Chanel jacket’ his eyes lit up and he said, ‘Do you think we could actually get a Chanel jacket?’ And I said, ‘I think we could.’”
Benzinger got in contact with the designer and was amazed at his response: in two day he had sent out two custom made jackets for the actress. Cate Blanchett has long been a muse for the Chanel designer, and so when approached Lagerfeld stated “For Cate, I’d do anything.”
Having a top designer on speed dial, willing to turn around bespoke pieces in a matter of days for you, well, she’s a pretty luck lady!
Here a few of the reasons Karl Lagerfeld has fallen for the Australian actress:
Off duty chic as Cate wears clean lines and crisp whites to the airport.
Monochrome drama in this two tone dress in a unique shape with minimal detailing.
High octane, red carpet glamour in this black, fishtail ball gown with feathered detail at the bottom.
It’s no wonder Cate’s minimal, chic style has caught the Chanel designer’s eye. Blue Jasmine is out on the 20th of September.
