Recently, we revealed the news that fashion house Burberry would be releasing a single with Brit band ‘The Feeling’, to coincide with their new Burberry Body fragrance; and now they’ve hit the headlines again after they were given ‘Genius’ status for their recent Online and Social Media interaction work.

The new status was given to the fashion house after the New York University L2 lab ranked the digital competence of 49 different global fashion companies by measuring their web sites, digital marketing, social media and mobile platforms. They found that Burberry came out on top and rewarded them with the ‘Genius’ classification.

The brand was highly commended for their interaction and Social Media work after fans were able to request samples of the new Burberry Body fragrance on their Facebook page. As well as this, through-out London Fashion Week, Burberry held ‘tweetwalks’ which showcased many looks to the millions of twitter users who were unable to attend the fashion show themselves.

L2 founder, Scott Galloway gave his opinion on the rankings, saying: “From live streams to runway shows to an arms race on social media platforms, brands are seeking the halo of innovation that comes from inspired online programming. However, most fashion brands still approach digital as a series of pet projects rather than presenting a coherent multi-platform strategy.”

Of course, we already knew that Burberry were geniuses in the fashion and designing stakes, but to be officially rewarded with such a status just shows that Burberry can do anything!
