Prada Handbags and Womenwear Ditched by Barneys

Barney’s chief executive Mark Lee has confirmed in an interview with Wall Street Journal that they will be dropping all new Prada merchandise – except for menswear and shoes this Spring.

The rife between Prada and Barney has come after the Italian designer brand wanted Barneys to agree to a concession model with them which mean that Prada would lease the floor space and give Barneys a percentage of the sales, however Barney wouldn’t agree to this.

This seems like a major blow to Prada especially as it was Barney’s that first helped to break the Italian brand into the US. Consequently, Barneys’ flagship space formerly devoted to Prada will soon be occupied by the French designer Azzedine Alaia.
