Finesse from Phoebe Philo
Phoebe Philo, the recently appointed creative director of French label Celine, unveiled her debut collection for the fashion house last week. Philo shot to fame as the assistant to Stella McCartney at Chloé and subsequently took over McCartney’s position after her move to Gucci. Philo is credited with increasing the popularity of Chloé with notable creations such as the Paddington ‘it’ bag being a favourite on the celebrity circuit.
Having taken some time out from the fashion world to raise her family, Philo returns with a bang. Her new collection is plucky, punchy and perfectly put together. The floaty, whimsical feel of Chloé is nowhere in sight with a modern day lady about town approach being used for the new collection. However, the block neutral colours are still apparent; only with flashes of bright blue. The outerwear is definitely a focus of the collection with sharp, clean lines appearing in the trophy jackets and long coats. With such a promising first collection, it seems that Philo may be on track to elevating the popularity of yet another French label.
Take your cues from Philo’s collection and go for a statement outwear piece:
This jacket from Topshop has the similar cleancut lines that the Celine collection features.
As does this sleeveless jacket from Mango.
