When we heard the news that Helena Bonham Carter was to receive a CBE award for her services to Drama, from Her Majesty The Queen, we immediately wondered what wacky outfit she would wear for the occasion.

The actress, famous for her roles in Harry Potter and Sweeney Todd, turned up to the palace on Wednesday 22nd in a suitably gorgeous all over tartan Vivienne Westwood suit, that wasn’t as wacky as expected. The tartan suit consister of a jacket top and ankle length skirt with ruffle detailing on the back. She wore her hair swept to one side, with a black top hat style fascinator.

The actress, who most recently played the Queen’s mother in The King’s Speech, attended the ceremony with her film director husband Tim Burton, her mother Elena and her two children, Billy Ray and Nell.

Bonham Carter spoke only to the Press Association after receiving her award, she dedicated the award to her late father and went on to say: “I am thrilled though not sure that I deserve it, I am delighted to accept such a wonderful honour in his memory.”

What do you think of Helena’s Vivienne Westwood outfit for her meeting with the Queen?
