Paris Fashion Week: Alexander Mcqueen Autumn/Winter 2011 collection

Over the weekend, one of the most anticipated collections was shown at Paris Fashion Week, and no I’m not talking about the Dior/Galliano shows, I’m talking about the Alexander McQueen Autumn/Winter 2011 show. McQueen shows have always struck a chord with the fashion world, even more so after the designer’s passing, so it was no surprise that this year’s show caused quite the stir.

After the rumours started that Kate Middleton would be wearing a McQueen wedding dress, everyone was expecting a bridal related theme to the show and they certainly weren’t disappointed.

Taking place at La Conciergerie, where prisoners of the French revolution were held before execution, the show was full of Gothic inspired gowns with fitted bodices and full flowing tulle trains in dreamy, ice-queen colour palettes while contrasting black clad beauties walked alongside in fitted, buckled contraptions with fur trim.

The crowds certainly weren’t disappointed as the ‘wedding dress’ took to the runway to close the show. With over 500 metres of hand-pleated chiffon forming the train and a hand embroidered bodice complete with pearls and tulle, whispers quickly arose as to whether the future Princess would be wearing a similar creation on her big day.

Can you image Kate Middleton in something like this?
