Street Style: Mix Vintage And High Street Like Becky

With the demand for vintage pieces on the rise, everyone is going Vintage crazy at the moment. Even shops on the High Street are stocking vintage inspired pieces, and Topshop Oxford Circus even has a department dedicated to some chic second hand beauties. The gorgeous Becky here shows us how she wears hers, teamed with High Street pieces. I chose to photograph Becky because her clashing prints and colours caught my eye, so I’m going to show you how to mix your old and your new like she has.

Becky wears a cardigan and vintage scarf passed down from her Nan, and a dress and shoes by Topshop.

To create a look like Becky’s, try and find yourself a chunky knit cardigan, preferably Vintage. If you can’t get hold of vintage, then I like to customise high Street pieces to make them appear as though they are. For example, you could buy a plain chunky cardigan and replace the buttons with mismatched vintage or gold nautical versions. This is a really simple way of making something look more unique within minutes.

You will then need to find a lovely floral tea dress and a silk style scarf in a clashing print and colour. Wear the scarf round the neck, or if you’re after a more subtle look, tie it onto a bag strap for a hint of colour.  Personally I would team this look with a pair of Mary Janes for the ultimate in Vintage glamour. For extra coverage during the day time add a pair of opaque tights.

For a more wearable alternative, go for prints in slightly similar colours when choosing your dress and scarf. To smarten the look up and make it more formal, why not add a vintage inspired blaze? You could even opt for one with a clashing lining and wear with sleeves rolled up to show it off. Again, play with the buttons to make the look all the more individual. For night time, stick to some nude or grey Mary Janes and bare legs. This look would also be great for work. Go for a smaller scarf and tie it round the neck for a more formal look (think air hostess’ neckerchief) and if your feeling adventurous then go for a vintage hat or some costume jewelry to enhance the look.
