Exclusive Interview With Designer Ben de Lisi

Renowned designer, Ben de Lisi, who created the now iconic red dress that Kate Winslet wore to the Oscars in 2002, released a collection for favourite high-street retailer Principles earlier this year. I was lucky enough to be present at the unveiling of the collection, which has been a huge hit so far, and also lucky enough to be able to ask the man himself a few questions following the success of the collection.

Here is what Ben had to say about the inspiration of his collection and what he’s excited about seeing in 2010:

-  Why did you decide to release a collection specifically for those aged 40 and over?

I decided to create a collection for a fashionable and sophisticated 40 year old , because as a very clued in consumer, I wanted to give her understated design , beautiful quality, and accessible prices without fleeting fashion trend.

-  What is your favourite piece in the collection?

My favourite pieces are the Mac and the New York skyline jersey dress.

-  Have you planned any other collaborations this year? What can we expect to see from Ben de Lisi in 2010?

I am really looking forward to seeing the reaction to Principles from customers who haven’t had a destination on the high street since last year, and building on the launch collection to create a beautiful autumn winter range will be really exciting.

-  What are your favourite trends that you expect to see in 2010?

Bold graphic prints , tailored neat coats, lots of layering in knits, and sharp bi-coloured jackets.

The Principles by Ben de Lisi collection is available at Debenhams stores nationwide.
