It’s one of the most iconic Wedding Dresses of the 21st century and it belongs to none other than one of the most stylish Royals around, Kate Middleton. This Summer the utterly stunning Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen dress has been on display at Buckingham Palace in order to let Kate fans have a peek at the truly gorgeous design.

Buckingham Palace expected around expected the exhibition to gain great popularity but they couldn’t have imagined that over 600,000 people would flock to see the dress, each paying £17.50. Although an official sum has not yet been announced, it is estimated that a staggering £10 million would have been raised through ticket sales, with millions more being made in the Palace’s official gift shop.

While the intricately designed dress is the main attraction, visitors were also able to view the Duchess’ 1936 Cartier Tiara, shoes, earrings and boquet, all worn by Kate on her special day, as well as the couple’s wedding cake.

The money raised through the exhibition will go towards the Royal Collection which maintains the paintings and other treasures taking up residence within the palace, but a portion of the proceeds will also go to Charity, which was a request made by the Duchess herself.

A spokesperson from the Royal Collection said: “We’ve enjoyed welcoming visitors from all over the world to Buckingham Palace in record numbers this summer. It has been an incredibly busy few months and we’re delighted that it’s been such a huge success.”
