Wedding Dress Showdown: Kate Middleton Vs Zara Philips?

Submitted by on Monday, 1 August 2011 | One Comment

It seems to be the year of the Royal weddings.  In April we saw the lavish ceremony of Prince William to Kate Middleton and now the Queen eldest granddaughter, Zara Philips decided to tie the knot this weekend to her Rugby fiancé, Mike Tindall.

Unlike Kate Middleton’s wedding, which was embroiled in a media frenzy regarding her dress, Zara Philips was a lot more low key so which Royal lady looked best on her wedding day?

Zara Philips…

Kate Middleton…

The Wedding Dress

Zara Philips is known for being a bit of a tomboy so it was lovely to see her looking absolutely beautiful and ladylike on her wedding day.  She was wearing a wedding dress which was designed by none other than Stewart Parvin, her grandmother’s favourite designer.  The ivory silk faille and duchess satin gown was what we expect from Stewart Parvin’s designs, elegant and timeless.  The dress cost just £7,000 compared to Kate Middleton’s wedding dress which cost £40,000.   Also, unlike Kate Middleton’s frame, Zara is a lot more athletic in her build so a corset on her wedding dress gave the illusion of a smaller waist and the sheer silk straps helped to soften her wide shoulders.

Kate Middleton on the other hand wore a romantic one off gown designed by British designer Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, with a delicate lace bodice and sleeves.  A simple, classic gown with intricate detailing, set of with a chic chiffon veil and a stunning train was the look Kate chose to wear. The dress had a elegant v style neckline with full length sleeves and a sleek A-line skirt. Lace detailing was key, with feminine applique flowers adorning Kate’s arms and shoulders. The look was completed with a sparkling tiara and droplet earrings.

Hair, Make Up and Accessories

Zara’s  blonde hair was pulled up into a sleek bun and as the tradition of something borrowed, she wore her mother’s Greek tiara.  However, Kate Middleton’s hair was subtly curled into soft, tumbling ringlets in a half up/half down style. Neatly styled with a side parting, the top layer of hair was gently tucked behind the ears, allowing the shimmering tiara to take centre stage.

Ms Philips make up was kept very simple but she did look absolutely radiant and glowing.  Compared to Kate’s make up which was a lot more darker to accentuate her dark looks.

So which of these two Royal brides looked the best?  Leave your comment below or vote on a Facebook poll
