Lady Gaga Shocker: Being Sued Over Cashing in on Japan Charity Bracelets
Celebrities who have done well for themselves usually use their name and money to help those who are less unfortunate. They often spare no expense when it comes to helping charity, however it would appear that this might not be the case for successful music singer, Lady Gaga.
Shocking news has hit the fashion headlines which claim that Lady Gaga is allegedly being sued for making money out of her charity bracelet, We Pray for Japan?!
A company called 1-800-LAW-FIRM has suggested that Gaga has been taking extra money off customers for shipping costs for the charity bracelet and keep the extra money for herself. Surely, Lady Gaga who is $110 million does not need to stoop this low to cash in on some extra pocket money? Well, not only are the company claiming this, but they are also saying that they will be suing Lady Gaga as a result.
“When you use your celebrity and your power as a musician to take money from people under false pretences, that’s just wrong,†said the firm’s lawyer, Ari Kresch. “When we tried to communicate with the defendants in this lawsuit, all we got was, ‘well, some of the money is being retained, but we don’t really know how much.’â€
Lady Gaga has been well known for her charitable work as she raised more than half a million dollars for those affected by the devastating earthquake in Haiti by donating one day’s worth of merchandise and concert ticket sales.
However, when she heard about the disaster in Japan she decided to use fashion to help the victims by designing a special charity bracelet and has asked her fans to spend just $5 (£3) on the white rubber prayer band. The bracelet has ‘We Pray For Japan’ written in both English and Japanese as well as an image of her ‘monster claw’ to symbolise her.
Her aim was to send all proceeds of thee band to go to the Japan Tsunami relief fund, however it would appear that the rumours appear otherwise. We are hoping that this is not true but we will wait and see to hear more.
