Spring/Summer 2011 Style Trend: Punk Fashion

Submitted by on Tuesday, 12 April 2011 | One Comment

Spring has only just started and we’re already seeing different looks being worn. One of the big trends is punk fashion. This trend was seen making its come back last year in the 2010 collections but its still influencing the trends of 2011. Over the years punk has been associated with subcultures. However its main purpose is to give a sense of rebellion and freedom. However many people make the mistake of copying punk icons such as Sid Vicious and others, which means that they are stuck in an era that we’ve gone past.

Studs, studs, studs are what we’ll mainly be seeing so make sure to stock up on essentials of any studded denim items.

Model Alice Dellal captures the perfect essence of a punk / rock girl.

Denim

Denim vests as seen on Alice Dellal can revamp any outfit and turn it into a rock chick’s outfit, giving you that extra bit of confidence. These are now stocked in a lot of stores but for those who like to use their hands, you can make your own. Frayed and destressed denim is perfect to give that ‘rocky’ attitude.

T-shirts

I’m sure most of you know that a good t-shirt can be a staple item to finish off your outfit. For this look all you need is a band t-shirt and you’re good to go. Some of these are hard to find unless you’ve been to the concerts but have a good cruise in your local vintage shop and I’m sure you’ll find some. For those who don’t like band t-shirts, plain tees are perfect for you. Tip! Roll the sleeves up for a trendier look.

Go for the ones with studs as they show the trend really well. Don’t forget about sandals which are every girl’s summer essential. Go for black ones with embellishments. Creepers also look great they are also super comfortable (whilst giving you a bit of height).

Punk fashion? I am not so sure that it’s for me and I’m usually pretty open when it comes to fashion trends. The punk trend I personally believe takes a certain person to pull off and I know I can’t do it! If you’re into fashion trends and are thinking about making a career out of it, you should check out FIDM/Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in LA! My friends graduated from FIDM and they have nothing but great things to say about the school. They both love fashion so much and looked at a lot of fashion colleges but in the end, FIDM has a great reputation in the fashion industry and awesome connections. If you’re thinking about a career in the fashion industry, it might be worth checking out their website :)
