Cheryl Cole’s year in fashion

Cheryl Cole has certainly hit the headlines this year, for all the wrong and all the right reasons. She has made herself a household name and the nations sweetheart, preening and glamorising herself from self styled Chav to Queen Bee of the X Factor and Pop Princess on both sides of the pond.

She started off her year in fashion at the DLD Starnight at the Haus der Kunst in January 2010. Here she showed off her tiny figure in a nude sparkling Herve Leger bandage dress teamed with gold heels.

She followed this up with an appearance at the the National Television Awards in February, where she graced the red carpet in a glorious silver Goddess Gown by Stéphane Rolland. This gorgeously slinky outfit bagged her Best Dressed of the Week 22/01/10 on Vogue.co.uk

Now a single lady and proving that she is just fine on her own, Cheryl turned up to the Outside the Law film premier at Cannes Film Festival in a dazzling white floor length Versace gown. The cut out side panels and thigh high split showed off her enviable figure, perhaps showing Ashley just what he was missing.

In the same month she also wowed the crowds at the Brit Awards, where she performed in a revealing white trench coat which she removed to reveal a black hooded all in one outfit.

Cheryl’s hard work in all aspects of her career meant that in June of this year she was awarded the Glamour Woman of the Year Award. She looked stunning in a nude lingerie inspired Julien Macdonald dress with a flowing train. She teamed the dress with a VBH clutch and Jimmy Choo embellished heels.

In the midsts of a divorce from football player Ashley, Cheryl was romantically linked with Derek Hough. After a holiday to Tanzania with her beau, Cheryl contracted a serious case of Malaria, however, once recovered she was back on top form with a brand new tumbling set of locks and a recycled Thread Social Mini dress in a gorgeous midnight blue.

Towards the end of the year, before the X Factor buzz hit the nation, Cheryl launched her brand new autobiography ‘Through My Eyes.’ She turned up to the book launch in a distinct Military ensemble with a khaki silk shirt, camouflage skinny trousers and metallic heels.

Towards the end of 2010, the X Factor frenzy swept the nation once again and the unofficial style battle between Cheryl and Dannii brought out some amazing looks as they secretly tried to beat each other in the fashion stakes.

Although Dannii had a slight edge over Cheryl on most weeks, Cheryl still looked amazing in a variety of designer labels, including an Editions by Georges Chakra 2010 black gown, which she team with Brian Atwood platforms and Mini Mouse inspired hairstyle. She also dazzled in a Roberto Cavalli nude column dress, a HMH Couture Pink Dress, a monochrome Jonathan Saunders 1950s inspired dress as well as an Emilio Pucci Black Lace Dress and a Falguni and Shane Peacock Dress. For the talent show’s finale, she opted for a gorgeous J Mendel floor length red gown.

Of course, she performed her single ‘Promise This’ on the show and subsequently caused a fashion riot with her outfit. Although her military jacket wasn’t too offensive, the Wolford Bondage Tights that she wore caused outrage amongst viewers with some branding her and her outfit ‘discusting,’ while fashionistas branded it a work of a genius. None the less, every one wanted to get their hands on the tights, sending sales of the tights rocketing.

This fashion frenzy just proved that Cheryl’s transformation is complete. She’s a bigger household name now than she ever has been, she is in the process of launching her US career in her music as well as being a judge on the US version of the X Factor. Not only that, but she has cemented herself as a style icon. We predict big things with Miss Cole in 2011, maybe even a fashion line?
